St. Magdalene 1970 | 23 Year Old Rare Malts Selection 58.1%
Lowland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 58.1%
An old bottle of the magnificent St. Magdalene 1970 23-year-old Lowland single malt whisky bottled in 1995 by Diageo forerunner United Distillers for their iconic Rare Malts Selection range at its enormous natural cask strength of 58.1%.
This early release of 23-year-old St Magdalene 1970 is less well-known nowadays than the subsequent 1979 19-year-old bottling released a couple of years later in 1997, but it's a brilliant whisky in its own right.
A tremendously old school, aromatic and viscous whisky, this glorious mix of light peats, herbs, oils, fruit notes, metallic aspects, wax, honey, hessian, dunnage, citrus and minerals is almost akin to a cask strength Riesling, if such a thing were ever to exist.
