A small batch Port Ellen 1979 25-year-old 5th Release Islay single malt whisky bottled in 2005 for owner Diageo's Special Releases series. Port Ellen 5th Release was bottled without chill filtration at full cask strength.

This Port Ellen 1979 25-year-old was an edition of 5280 bottles at a very impressive natural cask strength of 57.4% and was the last official Port Ellen to be bottled at 25 years old or younger, with the following year's 6th release being a 27-year-old and the rest of series going up from there. These early PE Special Releases were truly outstanding whiskies, and it's no exaggeration to say that without them the distillery would probably never have been revived.
