An old bottle of Port Ellen 1979 24-year-old Islay single malt whisky, a famous small batch limited edition released in 2003 as the 3rd Release Port Ellen in owner Diageo's Special Releases series.

The third Special Release Port Ellen 24-year-old was an edition of 9000 bottles from a small batch of casks of the 1979 vintage and was bottled at its hefty natural cask strength of 57.3%. A delicious Port Ellen 1979 showing a head-spinning mix of grapefruit, lemon cream, chargrilled kippers and salted caramel, with a thrillingly steely, austere edge. Even better with a drop of water.
