An old bottle of Port Ellen 1978 25-year-old 4th Release Islay single malt whisky, released at full cask strength in 2004 for owner Diageo's Special Releases series.

This wonderful 25-year-old Port Ellen 1978 was an edition of just 5100 bottles and weighed in at a firm, poky 56.2% natural cask strength. One of the most balanced of the official Port Ellen Special Releases series, this 1978 Port Ellen 25-year-old has all the guts and coastal, petroleum-esque potency of the earlier bottlings but also hints at the encroaching elegance and complexity that would play an increasingly more active role in the later releases. Like the 2nd and 6th Releases, this 4th Release was from the 1978 vintage, and was one of the pinnacles of the series.
