Old Fashioned batch 5 is an 11 year old blended malt bottle by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society in 2019.
For this release The Scotch Malt Whisky Society worked with Tempest Brewing Co. where they provided freshly imported Kentucky bourbon barrels that were used for their latest batch of barrel-aged Rye Double IPA.
Once the beer was bottled, the SMWS filled those same casks with whisky. After the whisky spent 14 months maturing in the beer-seasoned wood, they blended the DIPA-finished whisky with selected malts in first-fill sherry hogsheads to create Batch 5 Old Fashioned.
