Octomore Edition 10.2 8 Year Old
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 56.9%
Octomore 10.2 was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2019. This was an unusual Octomore from Bruichladdich, with the peating levels (though still very high) drastically reduced from the levels of some previous editions at a mere 96.9ppm.
Octomore 10.2 was described by Bruichladdich themselves as 'the epitome of opulence', no doubt as a result of this edition's double maturation, where the whisky was matured for four years in first fill ex-bourbon casks before being re-racked for another four years in fourth fill wine casks that previously held the Bordeaux sweet wine Sauternes.
As ever with Bruichladdich, Octomore 10.2 was bottled without colouring or chill filtration at it's natural cask strength, which in this case was a potent but not overpowering 56.9%. A top class combo of heavy peat and sweet fresh fruit flavours.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: Wisps of toasted oak, smouldering peat and ripe nectarine are followed by passion fruit and lemon in syrup.
Palate: Rich and oily in texture with hints of dryness from the oak. Sugary sweet and fruity, expect peach and Jelly Babies, delicately counterbalanced with dry smoke. The classic Octomore sweet and smoky combination comes to the fore, beautifully encased in toasted oak.
Finish: Toasted oak and smoke linger, balanced with sweet honey, orange and hints of clove.
Character: A great contrast to the 10.1, Octomore 10.2 is the epitome of opulence. Longer in the cask, tremendous cask pedigree and a combination of sweet tropical fruit and smoke that is unbeatable.
