Macallan Red 40-year-old Speyside single malt whisky is the latest incarnation of Macallan 40-year-old, which first appeared as a 450-bottle limited edition for travel retail in 2005. After a long hiatus, two further batches appeared in 2016 and 2017 before the 40-year-old was incorporated as the youngest expression in the Macallan Red Collection in 2020.

Each successive edition of Macallan 40-year-old has gradually increased in strength - the original duty free edition in 2005 was bottled at 43%, while the 2016 and 2017 editions were bumped up to 45%. This first edition of Macallan 40-year-old for The Red Collection matured in sherry seasoned casks and has been bottled without colouring at its natural cask strength of 48.1%.
