Macallan’s Fine Oak range was first introduced in 2004 and caused a rumpus among whisky fans at the time as the series featured whisky matured in ex-bourbon casks as well as the sherry casks that the distillery had defined itself by up to that point. Now that some time has passed the Fine Oak whiskies can be judged on their own merits; the 18-year-old, when taken away from its initial controversy, is an elegant, easy-drinking lunchtime whisky.
