Macallan 15 Year Old Double Cask
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 43%
A bottle of Macallan 15-year-old Double Cask Speyside single malt whisky bottled without colouring at a gentle but still intensely flavoured 43%.
Once famed for sherry maturation, Macallan broke with their own traditions a couple of decades ago with the introduction of Macallan Fine Oak, which included bourbon-matured Macallan in the assemblage.
Macallan Fine Oak is no more, but Macallan Double Oak is somewhere in between the full sherry maturation and the sherry/bourbon mix, with the whiskies used for the Double Oak series matured in a combination of sherry seasoned American oak and sherry seasoned European oak casks. The vanilla from the American oak coupled with the spiciness of the European oak makes this a sweet and warming dram.
