Lochnagar 12 Year Old 1970s
Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 26 2/3 Fl Ozs / 70 Proof
An old Lochnagar 12-year-old Highland single malt whisky, this is a rare old official bottling from the Royal Lochnagar distillery but with the ‘Royal’ left off the label and replaced with the ‘Deeside’ term referring to the nearby river Dee in Aberdeenshire. These are always magnificent old school Highland drams.
This 1970s Deeside edition Lochnagar 12-year-old is one of the earliest modern official bottlings from the Royal Lochnagar distillery and uses imperial measurements for the size and strength, so it’s safe to assume that this was released before 1980 and that the whisky inside was therefore likely distilled in the 1960s. Lochnagar was only converted to steam heating in 1969, so this spirit would have been made when the stills were still direct fired, and may also predate the removal of Lochnagar’s worm tub condensers in the mid-1960s.
