A famous single cask Linkwood 1956 60-year-old Speyside single malt whisky bottled in 2016 by Gordon & MacPhail as an uber-prestige edition for their Private Collection Ultra series.
Linkwood 1956 Cask 20 was a first-fill European oak sherry hogshead originally filled at the distillery on the orders of the legendary 'Mr. George' Urquhart on the 3rd January 1956. The cask remained at Linkwood distillery until 1968, when it was moved to G&M's Elgin warehouses for another 48 years of maturation before bottling.
As it turned out, Linkwood 1956 Cask 20 ended up as Gordon & MacPhail's last remaining cask of 1950s Linkwood distillery. The cask was bottled as a 60-year-old in June 2016 as an edition of just 56 beautiful crystal decanters, retaining a very impressive natural cask strength of 49.4%. A stunning old sherried Speyside showing remarkable character after six decades in what must have been an out of this world sherry cask.
