Glenlivet 1938 Gordon & MacPhail 1980s
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: Gordon MacPhail 75cl / 40%
A 1938 Glenlivet Speyside single malt whisky bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in the late 1970s. This was one of the semi-official licensed bottlings that G&M have always done so well, with the Smith's Glenlivet livery, and later became known as the Distillery Labels range.
If you weren't already aware, these bottlings are amongst the finest whiskies you'll ever taste, full stop. Just like Strathisla, Glen Grant, Mortlach, Dalmore and Macallan from the same era, Glenlivet could age phenomenally well. Combine this with the truly old style pre-war production methods and the out of this galaxy quality of the sherry casks they were using, and you get whisky like this. An experience that all whisky fans should have at least once.
These old pre-war distillates often display the most stunning combinations of desiccated coconut, rancio, tobacco, peat, metal polish, hessian, wax, intense fruitiness and all kinds of sub complexities.
They leave most modern whiskies far far behind.
