Glenesk 5 Year Old 1980s
Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 750ml / 40%
A rare official bottling of Glenesk 5-year-old Highland single malt whisky bottled in the 1980s by DCL subsidiary Wm Sanderson & Son. This is a rather unusual young Glenesk OB originally bottled for the Italian market, with the standard Sanderson official bottling of the day being a 12-year-old.
Glenesk distillery provided a keystone malt for the VAT 69 blended Scotch whisky in its heyday and was also sometimes known as Hillside distillery - most notably in the superb Rare Malt Editions versions released in the mid-1990s. Owners DCL (who later morphed into Diageo) closed Glenesk / Hillside in 1985 at the height of the whisky lake crisis, although the distillery's maltings are still operational today under the Belgian malting giant Boortmalt.
