Convalmore 1977 | 28 Year Old Special Releases 2005
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 57.9%
A lovely old Convalmore 1977 28-year-old Speyside single malt whisky bottled for Diageo's Special Releases in 2005 in a small batch of 3900 bottles at its frankly remarkable natural cask strength of 57.9%.
Convalmore had been permanently closed since 1985 and although great indie bottlings had of course previously appeared from the likes of Cadenhead's, G&M and the SMWS, the distillery was an unknown quantity to most single malt fans, with the only previous official bottling being a spectacular (but at the time overlooked) Rare Malts edition released in 2003.
One of Dave Broom's favourite ever whiskies, this beautiful old 1977 Convalmore 28-year-old really brought the distillery to the attention of a lot of whisky fans, and set the stage for further excellent Special Release Convalmore bottlings in 2013 and 2017. A stunning dram from one of the great lost Dufftown distilleries.
