A single cask Benromach 1988 20-year-old bottled without colouring or chill filtration by owners Gordon & MacPhail in 2018 to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the recommencement of distilling at Benromach after a laborious five-year restoration following their purchase of the distillery in 1993 from Diageo forerunner United Distillers.
Fittingly for such an auspicious occasion, this 20-year-old Benromach 1998 came from Cask 1, the first cask filled with Gordon & MacPhail's new spirit after the rebuild, and clearly G&M brought their angel-defying magic with them from Elgin to their Benromach warehouses too, as this first fill sherry butt somehow yielded 575 bottles at a frankly astonishing natural cask strength of 60.1%. A delicious dram from a truly underrated distillery.
