A potent dram from the little-seen Balmenach distillery, this 1981 Balmenach was bottled as a 15-year-old by Cadenhead's in 1997, the same year that Inver House bought Balmenach distillery from United Distillers.

This 1981 Balmenach 15-year-old appeared as part of Cadenhead's Authentic Collection at its epic cask strength of 61.9%. Balmenach is often matured in sherry wood, but this one looks like a refill cask, which are often more interesting for adventurous whisky fans, allowing the distillery's muscular, oily spirit to express itself more fully.
