A single cask 1987 Balmenach 32-year-old bottled in 2020 without colouring or chill filtration by Gordon & MacPhail for their Connoisseur's Choice Cask Strength range, one of a string of long-aged drams celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Gordon & MacPhail's Connoisseurs Choice range.

This 32-year-old Balmenach 1987 matured in a refill sherry hogshead that yielded just 208 bottles at its natural cask strength of 51%. Balmenach has long been a Speyside workhorse for owners Inver House (and previous stewards United Distillers) and official bottlings are almost non-existent, so these indie bottlings are the best way to taste the distillery's gutsy, characterful spirit.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Stewed apple crumble complemented by warm autumnal spice.
Palate: Black pepper and dark chocolate flavours lead to brown sugar with a hint of orange.
Finish: Subtle almonds and dried tobacco notes linger.
