Crabbie (Macallan) 30 Year Old Single Cask
Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by John Crabbie 70cl / 48.6%
An old bottle of Crabbie's 30-year-old Single Cask Speyside single malt whisky, which appeared somewhat unexpectedly in 2018 to general delight.
This single cask Crabbie 30-year-old came from a single refill Oloroso sherry cask that yielded 330 bottles at a natural cask strength of 48.6%. The distillery is not mentioned on the packaging but it's an open secret that this is a Macallan distilled in the late 1980s.
This secret indie Macallan is distinguished also by being rather more smoky than standard bottlings, as apparently there was a batch of lightly peated malt used in error around 1988, which is probably why this cask ended up in indie hands. A top class, long-aged, slightly smoky 30-year-old full strength single cask Macallan for a fraction of the price of the official 30-year-old.
