Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: This big bold Islay whisky charges out of the glass with notes of coastal smokiness galore; iodine, beach bonfire, harbour rope and tar all abound.
Palate: The palate brings in a rich backbone of chewy fruits revealing its secondary maturation in ex-sherry wood, and a little water shows a rich, deep smokiness spanning cherries, earthy peat smoke, Demerara sugar and grilled peaches.
Finish: The texture, combined with powerful character gives an exceptionally long finish with wood smoke and rich fruit cake dancing on the palate.
Ronnie Cox Says
“Bessie Williamson was the legendary manager at Laphroaig from the 1940’s until the early 1970’s and spokesperson for the Scotch Whisky Association in the USA where she toured during the 1960’s to promote the amber dew.
Her early vision was such that she predicted the surge in popularity of single malts, particularly strongly peated gems such as this fine Islay.”
