A high strength Tullibardine 2015, bottled as an 8-year-old in 2023 at 57.1% without colouring or chill filtration by Signatory Vintage from a small batch of first fill Oloroso sherry butts for their 100-Proof Editions series.
57.1% alcohol by volume is equivalent to 100 Imperial Proof, the original UK alcoholic strength classification. A small amount of the alcohol would be mixed with gunpowder, and if the the gunpowder could still ignite the spirit was 'proved' - a useful safety measure for naval warships. The proof system was replaced by the easier to understand alcohol by volume (ABV) on booze labels in 1980.
