Port Charlotte MC:01 2009 | 9 Year Old
Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Distillery Bottling 70cl / 56.3%
Port Charlotte MC:01 9-year-old was distilled at Bruichladdich in 2009 and bottled without colouring or chill filtration at its natural cask strength of 56.3% in 2018. Port Charlotte 2009 MC:01 originally appeared as a travel retail exclusive before being rolled out to other markets.
Port Charlotte is one of Bruichladdich's peated malts, with a phenol count around 40ppm - high by most standards but still much less than the heavily-peated Octomore. Port Charlotte MC:01 had a complex maturation, spending six years in a mix of American and French oak casks before being re-racked for a two year finishing period in casks that formerly were home to the Sicilian fortified wine Marsala.

Tasting Notes
Official Tasting Notes
Nose: A glorious autumnal whisky, with top notes of clove and seville orange, ripe peach and apricot - rose petals and vanilla from the french oak.
Palate: Left to open in the glass we get more peach with salted caramel, the peat smoke a mist behind the spice and sweet fruit notes.
Finish: Ultimately the tar and charred oak come through and you are transported.
Conclusion: This is a feel good whisky, an autumn walk in the woods then a good book by a roaring fire kind of whisky.
