An old bottle of Lagavulin 1988 Distillers Edition Islay single malt whisky, bottled at 43% in 2004. Lagavulin has long been one of the most popular of the Classic Malts, and this is particularly true in the Distillers Editions, among which it is unarguably the best option (unless you don't like smoky whiskies).

Lagavulin Distillers Editions have been finished in Pedro Ximenez sherry casks before bottling, giving the whisky a noticeably darker hue than the standard Lagavulin 16-year-old, and imbuing the spirit with delicious rich sweet raisiny notes to complement its elemental Islay phenolicity. A textbook after-dinner Islay whisky, and these early vintage editions shine far more brightly than their modern day counterparts.
