Ilegal's Joven mezcal is made in Oaxaca with the Espadin agave variety, which is slow-roasted over mesquite and eucalyptus charcoal in a traditional earth pit oven for just under a week before being crushed and fermented by wild indigenous yeasts and distilled on copper alembic stills.

Joven just means young, making this the mezcal equivalent of a blanco or silver tequila: bottled without ageing. Consequently, you get the full-on, earthy, smoky agave intensity of flavour in Ilegal Joven mezcal - a real eye-opener if you've never tried a proper mezcal before. Tequila it ain't.

Tasting Notes
