Ruadh Maor (Glenturret) 2010-2021 | 10 Year Old Infrequent Flyers

Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky
Bottled by: The Alistair Walker Whisky Company 70cl / 57.8%

Ruadh Maor is the name given to the peated malt whisky made occasionally at Highland stalwart Glenturret, and one or two of these have been creeping onto the indie market in recent times to favourable notices across the board.

This 2010 peated Glenturret was bottled in early 2021 as a 10-year-old Ruadh Maor at a hearty 57.8% by Alistair Walker Whisky Co for their Infrequent Flyers series, having spent a finishing period in a Marsala hogshead which we'd guess has contributed an extra shade or two of that delightful dark gold colour and no doubt plenty of sweet dried fruit flavours to boot.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Bright burnished copper.

Nose: An immediate and sizeable hit of cooked meat. Crispy bacon, smoked haddock. Very savoury.

Palate: Intense. Such a contrast of flavours here. Really sweet and fruity - apricots, peaches and marmalade - the Marsala cask flexing its muscles. This goes toe-to-toe with a smoky, medicinal, barbequed meat profile. Works brilliantly.

Finish: Strong, smoky and sweet - with a wee spicy note at the end.
