A very special edition rum-finished Balvenie 27-year-old, the poetically-titled A Rare Discovery From Distant Shores is a limited edition Balvenie distilled in the mid-1990s and transferred in 2014 to casks that formerly held 10-year-old rum distilled at the cult lost distillery Caroni on Trinidad.

This Balvenie 27-year-old A Rare Discovery from Distant Shores spent over seven years finishing in the Caroni casks before being bottled at a mouth-watering 48%. A leathery, sweet Balvenie whisky with strong muscovado sugar and exotic fruit notes, this almost demands to be drunk with a fine cigar.

Official Tasting Notes

Nose: Rich and indulgent with notes of muscovado sugar and manuka honey. Lighter floral notes intersperse the aroma with occasional hints of green banana and light spice.

Palate: Beautifully smooth with a velvet vanilla viscosity. The Initial burst of sweetness graduates to treacle toffee, aged leather and deep oak tannin.

Finish: Lingering, sweet with a wonderful mouthcoating oiliness.
