This 12-year-old Balmenach 2012 came from single cask 5, a bourbon hogshead cask that yielded 229 bottles at a robust cask strength of 56.7%. Balmenach is a weighty, meaty spirit, in part due to its use of worm tubs to condense the make, and remains determinedly obscure, with owners Inver House retaining almost all the distillery’s spirit for their blended whiskies.
