A single cask Akkeshi 2018 Japanese single malt whisky bottled in 2023 by indie bottler Adelphi for their celebrated Adelphi Selection series. Curiously, this has been labelled as a 3-year-old despite the fact that going off the distillation and bottling dates it should be at least a 4-year-old. The answer is that the whisky probably rested for a while in steel, glass or PET to be transported to Scotland for bottling.
Anyway, this 3-or-4-year-old Akkeshi 2018 came from single cask 1011, a first fill bourbon barrel that yielded 253 bottles at a hefty natural cask strength of 57.8%. Despite its tender years, this Akkeshi is a tremendous whisky, a young peaty dram in the Islay style that promises great things from this Hokkaido distillery in years to come.
